Mama’s Advice is an art series of photos with different types of flowers gently cradled between our fingers. The theme of the series is self-discovery, which is inspired and adapted from Lupita Nyongo’s bestselling children’s book “Sulwe” – a story about a young girl who wishes for her dark skin to be lighter. It’s ultimately a story about colorism and learning to love oneself, no matter one’s skin tone. We’ve taken the story and creatively expanded on the conversation between Sulwe and her mother using our images of flowers and our three steps to becoming intentional – to slow down, give gratitude, and take responsibility.

The series also symbolizes that everything is connected, thus we can learn lessons from Nature when we slow down and are present. This is also a reminder that Nature plays an essential role in ensuring our existence. Hence, we have a responsibility to take care of Nature. When we take care of Nature, we take care of ourselves. 🌺
